Duties of the Clerk:
The Township Clerk is clerk of the town board of trustees, keeper of all records, except those for active general assistance cases. The Clerk is required to keep accurate records of all meetings of the town board and to maintain records of Executive Sessions of the board according to statute (minimum of six months when they are to be reviewed). The Clerk is also responsible for taking the roll call on all votes.
The Clerk is the local election authority and is responsible for accepting petitions concerning local elections and/or referendums. The Township Clerk is responsible for publishing or posting certain specific notices including notices for the highway commissioner.
The Township Clerk is ex-officio clerk of the road district and maintains the records of highway commissioner. The Clerk must be present for the bid opening for both the township and road district.

Residents needing a handicap placard must have the Disability Placard Application signed by their physician. Residents can then bring in their signed Disability Placard Application to the Township Clerk’s office and that resident will be issued a 90-day temporary placard. This service is free.
After coming in to obtain a obtaining the temporary placard, the application needs to be mailed to the Secretary of State’s Office in Springfield, IL. More information on the Secretary of State’s website HERE.

United States Citizens may register to vote for the upcoming elections at the Clerk’s Office. One must have 2 pieces of identification showing their current address in order to register.
In Illinois, one is allowed to vote in primary elections at the age of 17 as long as one turns 18 by the general election, otherwise one must be 18 years of age to register.

The agencies are required to provide the requested information unless it falls under any of the nine exemptions which protect matters of personal privacy, national security, and law enforcement.
Submitting a FOIA request is an easy process; start by checking if the information you want is publicly available. If not, simply send an email to ehoffenberg@lyonsts.com and reasonably describe the records you seek. We’ll send a confirmation that your request was received within one business day; the records will be provided within 3-5 business days depending on the request.
